CHAPTER 1
“I don’t care what court he presides over, he doesn’t appreciate you, Michelle, and he certainly doesn’t deserve you!” Warren said as he pulled up the top of his right sock.
“Not the way you do, that’s for sure!” Michelle agreed with a big smile as she popped her head around the door of the bathroom.
They both dressed quickly as they always did before leaving the Lone Star Motel on Route 9 just outside of Houston. For almost three months they had been meeting here every Tuesday morning at 10:30 and Thursdays as well if they could both make it, as their relationship teetered beyond the point of just sex and passion.
Warren Lee Hambert was a tall, broad-shouldered man with high cheekbones, a chiseled jaw, and white teeth that glowed next to his tanned skin. He had the strut of a cowboy, and his confidence and affluence filled any room. But, he was no cowboy. In fact, he had never even ridden a horse. He was a salesman. He worked for a pharmaceutical company selling, distributing and promoting pharmaceutical medications in his exclusive area east of Houston. He was good at it, and the money followed.
“He doesn’t know how good he has it, or had it, I should say. So when you gonna leave him and begin the happy ever after with me?” He knew Michelle Martin had no intention of leaving her husband. Warren believed she loved the lifestyle, notoriety, and wealth that accompanied her marriage to one of the state’s most important judges. He was assuming the sale anyway, assuming that one day she would leave her husband, and end up happier with him.
“You know I can’t. My mother’s heart is bad enough. If I got divorced, it would kill her.” Michelle said as her large brown eyes looked up to meet his. She placed one hand over each of his shoulders, forming a loose embrace that allowed her to continue looking into his eyes from a comfortable distance.
